VC: Quinta do Noval is considered one of the finest, if not the finest, Port house, and this non-vintage Tawny shows why. Medium ruby colour, unusually youthful for a ‘tawny’. Nose is bursting with raisin, menthol, chocolate cherry, dark chocolate, spice cupboard and marzipan. Medium sweet with a refined and impeccable balance. Great bones here, with tannins and bright acidity that suggests you could cellar it, if you must. But why wait? This long-finishing, delicious Port is ideal. My note: A lovely dessert wine with rich blackberry and blueberry preserves, kirsch and dark spices. Food matches: almond-based desserts, high-quality dark chocolate, apple-cinnamon flan.
